Compass views from cache locations

Smart Phone Apps

Today's smart phones provide all the GPS capabilities necessary.  For example, on Apple devices the Compass app comes free.  Or you can download more powerful GPS apps like Motion-X GPS.

To make it even easier, here is what the Compass looks like when you are at the cache locations - as if you were looking directly back to the homestead.

5. Send in pictures!:  send in pictures for us to post on the website (but don't give away the cache locations!)

Your Geocaching Certificate

Extra Help:

a. Log in:  prove you found it by logging your name and date in the cache's Log Book;
b. Stamp your certificate:  use the rubber stamp and ink pad to stamp your certificate;
c. Take a prize:  pick a piece of swag from the cache.  It is good form to bring a swag of similar value to trade, but not required.;
d. Put the cache back:  right where you found it for the next person to find (but don’t tell them where it is!);
e. Go find the next one!

1. Get "what you need":  Steve has provided copies of the Ames Farm Geocaching Challenge certificates, a clip board, and ink pads in the Work Shop;

2. Put your name and date on the Ames Farm Geocaching Challenge certificate;

3. Read the clues and, using your GPS device or smart phone, find your way to the cache coordinates;

4. When you find the cache:

How to play:

Every so often, Steve will re-locate the caches around the farm, so keep looking back to see if there is a new one.

Only a few years before the Ames Farm was established, the art of Letterboxing began in Dartmoor, England.  130 years later, with the advancement of GPS, in May 2000 the term “geocaching” was first coined.  Today, millions of geocachers search for over 6 million caches across 200 countries – including caches hidden in the Allen Cemetery and the corner of Peck Settlement & Willard Street Ext.  For the farm's family and guests, Steve has added 5 caches around the 169 acres.  See if you can find them!

2. A GPS device or smart phone: to find your way to the proper coordinates;
